Language Guide

Language Guide Booklet

I have created an information booklet/ learning aid about Australian language, such as idioms, phrases, words and also the mannerisms of Australians. This booklet is targeted towards refugees in Australia from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). Within the DRC, French is their national language with many other languages spoken throughout the county. Australia has a very unique way of speaking, that even English speakers may struggle to understand. This is because of unique slang words and phrases that often do not have anything to do with the direct translation. Therefore, these differences in language are not likely to be taught in plain English lessons.

For the design of the booklet, I have drawn a pattern based on fabric patterns that are used in traditional Congolese clothing. The colours used throughout the booklet are red, yellow, and blue, the three colours present on the flag of the DRC.
